How this is calculated
2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027). Assumes employment income only, with the standard Personal Allowance and its high-income taper. Excludes National Insurance, student loans, pension deductions, other income and additional reliefs. Income after Income Tax is not your take-home pay.
Source: GOV.UK — Income Tax rates and allowances. Checked 6 September 2026.
Scottish bands: GOV.UK — Scottish Income Tax.
Calculation method
Income Tax = sum of taxable income in each band × that band’s rate
The standard Personal Allowance is £12,570. Above £100,000 of income in this simplified model, it falls by £1 per £2 until it reaches zero. Income above the allowance is taxed progressively using the selected jurisdiction’s bands. National Insurance, pension deductions and other reliefs are not included.
Worked example
For £60,000 of annual employment income in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, the model estimates £11,432 of Income Tax: £7,540 in the basic-rate band and £3,892 in the higher-rate band. The £48,568 remaining is before National Insurance and any other deductions.

Common questions
Which tax year does this cover?
6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. Do not assume these figures apply to a different year; check the tax-year label and official source.
Why is this different from my payslip?
Payslips may reflect National Insurance, pension contributions, student loans, tax-code adjustments, bonuses and previous pay periods. This calculator models annual employment income and Income Tax only.
Does it include savings or dividend income?
No. Those income types can have different rates and allowances. This tool assumes employment income only, and is not a Self Assessment calculation.
